Two policemen of the Railway Police risked their own lives to save a 24-year-old woman from getting crushed to death under a train, early this morning. The woman was trying to commit suicide.

Head Constable Shivachandran and constable Mahendran were on their morning rounds at Neelikonampalayam, as part of the security duty for Republic Day, noticed a woman lying on the track, even as an express train was just 500 metres away, rushing towards her.

The two policemen jumped into the track and pulled the woman out.

They later found out that the woman, identified as Tamilarasi, was depressed by the frequent quarrels with her husband and had decided to end her life on the railway track.

Tamilarasi is currently residing in a shelter home in the city. Further investigations are on.
