With two rounds of talks failing to resolve the issue of wage of power loom job working units in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, the indefinite strike entered the 14th day today, with a production loss of about Rs.700 crore.
The Collectors of Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, Archana Patnaik and S. Jayandhi, held talks with the stake holders – power loom job working unit owners and textile manufacturers – on February 4 and on February 9 too.
No agreement was reached necessitating another round of talks on February 14, official sources said today.
Power loom job working units are on an agitation path since January 28, claiming that the manufacturers were not paying the wages as per the agreement reached in 2014 to give 27 and 30 per cent increase in the wages, based on the fabric variety.
The districts have more than two lakh power looms, and the strike has affected nearly five lakh persons both directly and indirectly and also related industries, like yarn suppliers.
