The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has predicted no major changes in the prices of shallot (small onions), locally known as Sambar onions, between March and April.

With heavy arrivals of small onion in major markets of Tamil Nadu, the analysis carried out by the Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre revealed that the price for the good quality small onion will remain between Rs.22 to 24 this season, against the current prices of Rs.25 per kilo.

The arrival of small onions in Dindigul, Trichy, Perambalur, and Tirupur markets have increased tremendously, thereby affecting the farm harvest prices.

Tamil Nadu is the largest producer of small onion in India, accounting for 90 percent of the total produce.
