Maoist prisoners complain about lack of furniture in cells

Shyna and Anoop, two of the five Maoists lodged in the Central Jail complained to the CPI Kerala unit secretary, Kanam Rajendran, that they were not being treated as political prisoners and were not being provided with, among other things, tables and chairs.
Rajendran was here in Coimbatore to attend the 41st AITUC conference. After meeting the prisoners, Rajendran told the mediapersons that despite complaints from Shyna, they were not being treated as political prisoners. He also pointed out that Shyna had some health problems.
Claming that it was wrong to have used the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for these political prisoners or people in public life, Rajendran said that there were no evidence of their involvement in illegal activities, but only some cheating cases were filed on them.
