Art brings students together

With the intention of bringing school children and college-goers together, the Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Gaalaxy, Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi, Rotract Club of Coimbatore Sparks, Hicas Club, SNR Sons College, and SNT Business School joined hands to organize a painting competition for school children.

“The idea is to encourage the artistic talents of the school children and bringing them together. There i no registration fee for the contest. In order to encourage participation, we will distribute participation certificates to all the participants,” Haripriya, of Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi, said.

Around 700 students from 150 schools and colleges from in and around Coimbatore city participated in this district-level painting contest. The school students were divided into four groups- A, B, C, and D. Group A consisted of students from class VI to VIII. Their topic was national leaders. Students of class IX to XII were in group B, and they had to draw about Happy India. Group C was open to professional artists and college students and the topic that was allotted to them was ‘Save Nature’. The last category, group D, was for the specially-gifted children and the topic allotted to them was ‘India 2020.’

Judging the contest was social worker and socialite Leema Martin, who will also take over as the President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi later this year.
