With the central government trying to support entrepreneurs in the country to improve the industrial sector, Gurudas Das Gupta, the general secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Saturday said that that new entrepreneurship should not be encouraged at the cost of labour rights.
Briefing mediapersons after the 41st national session of the AITUC, Dasgupta said that exemption on labour laws and taxes for new startups, for a period of three years are against the interest of the nation though it would generate more jobs.
Criticising the economic policies of the government and the amendments made in the labour laws, Dasgupta said that the central trade unions in the country will organize a nationwide protest on March 10 against such policies.
About the Left-Congress alliance in West Bengal, he said, “Democracy in West Bengal is under threat and police has become subservient to the government which has lead to the alliance.”
While admitting that the trade unions are very weak in the IT sector, he said that the proposed labour law amendments have made the formation of trade unions more difficult.
Nearly 2,682 representatives from all over the nation took part in the national session of the union, which will end on Sunday.
