Justifying the arrest of JNU studentleader Kanhaiya Kumar, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) said that they would continue those who brazenly make anti-national statements.
Talking to mediapersons in Chennai, ABVP Tamil Nadu unit Secretary K Perumal said the opposition is embarking on a mischievous campaign by portraying the ABVP as being responsible for various incidents, including the one at JNU in New Delhi.
He said the ABVP would oppose and continue to oppose those making anti-national statements and justified the
arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar.
Stating that the student community was unaware of what had exactly happened at the JNU, Perumal said the ABVP would launch an awareness campaign from March across the State highlighting the actual fact of the incidents that took place at the JNU.
He also demanded action against the Madras University Criminology Department Head for permitting the Students Federation of India to hold a meeting at its premises in which SFI leader had opposed the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar.
He also said despite several requests, permission was not given for ABVP to hold a meeting to explain its position on the issue.
