Even as heated ensued at the Lok Sabha today between the Congress and the AIADMK over the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to release the seven convicted in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, his son, and current Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi has refused to voice his personal views on the issue.
As soon as the House gathered today, Congress members objected to the decision to release the assassins of the former Prime Minister of the country. Objections were raised by the members of the AIADMK. Chaos followed, after which, the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge to speak on the issue during the Question Hour.
Stating his objection to the Tamilnadu government’s decision, Kharge said that the move should not be allowed for the sake of the country’s unity and integrity.
The Congress vice-president and son of Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul said that it was for the government to decide, but clarified that his party will oppose the decision. He however refused to voice his personal opinion on the issue as a son.
The Home Minister Rajnath Singh informed the House that the Centre was examining the letter, and added that it was “our constitutional and moral responsibility” to adhere to the Supreme Court’s ruling in this case.
