Seized money crosses Rs.14 crore mark

The Election Commission announced today that unaccounted money seized all over Tamil Nadu, since the election code of conduct came into effect, has crossed Rs.14 crores, with Rs.30 lakhs recovered on Monday alone. Also seizes during the raids were gold and silver jewels.

There has also been a steady increase in the number of complaints about violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), with the count crossing 2 lakhs. 150 FIRs were registered against the violators.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni, the exact amount seized stands at Rs.14.7 crores, and in addition to gold and silver, cases of liquor bottles too were among the articles recovered.

The money was deposited in the state treasury.
