No celebration is complete these days without a cake. What if the cakes of your choice are delivered at your doorstep? That is exactly what Cakebee, Coimbatore’s only online cake delivery portal, does.

Cakebee is a startup venture by friends-turned-entrepreneurs. Sethu Subbiah takes care of the production; Saravanakumar C.P., Abishek Baskaran, and Kousik Kumar are responsible for the technical support required for the venture; Vijesh Kuppuraj is in charge of capturing the images of the cakes, while Nikhil Bhat looks after the marketing aspects of Cakebee.

The idea sparked in November last year, when the friends wanted to place an order for a cake. But the cake they wished to order for was unavailable. They hopped from one bakery to another, but, the cake eluded them.

“If we are going through this, I was sure there would be many other people who experience this in Coimbatore. Thus, we decided to start a venture that allows people in Coimbatore to place orders for the cakes of their choice. We ensure that all our varieties of cakes are available all the time,” Abishek Baskaran, one of the founders of Cakebee, shares.

Currently, the online cake shop offers customers more than 20 flavours of fresh cream cakes. They sell cakes in three categories – Express, Signature, and Hand-crafted. While the express cakes are delivered within two hours of placing the orders, the signature cakes are delivered in six hours. To deliver the hand-crafted cakes, Cakebee requires about a day’s time.

All the cakes are made-to-order, and the order is prepared in the kitchen located in K.K. Pudur, Coimbatore. Cakebee started with staff strength of just two in the kitchen, and a delivery boy. But, with the steady increase in orders, month after month, their team has expanded.

“It is through word of mouth that we have managed to get new orders. We also get repeat orders from our regular customers. ‘we deliver 20 cakes on a daily basis’,” Abishek shares.

Cakebee allows customers to make online payments for the cakes. There is also the Cash on Delivery option. Delivery within 20 kilometres radius is free. A nominal fee is charged for deliveries beyond 20 kilometres.
