The district court in Tirupur today refused to grant bail to the in-laws of Dalit youth Shankar, who was brutally hacked to death in Udumalpet last month.

Chinnasamy and Annalakshmi, the parents of 19-year-old Kausalya, the widow of Shankar, had filed bail petitions in Principal District Court.

While Chinnasamy had surrendered the day after the incident on March 13, Annalakshmi turned up a couple of days ago, in Theni.

Based on the arguments put forward by the Public Prosecutor, K.M. Subramaniam against granting bail to the couple, Judge Alamelu Natarajan rejected the bail applications.
