Heeding to a direct order from the Madras High Court, the Coimbatore Corporation officials, on Saturday, sealed a portion of the residence of a higher official of the National Highways department, which was built without getting proper approval at Nanjundapuram, in Coimbatore.

The house, belonging to V. Rani Samyuktha, an official of the National Highways department at Goodalur in Nilgris, measures 4000 sq feet, in SNV Garden, on Najundapuram Road in Coimbatore.

The owner had got approval from the Corporation for constructing the ground floor and the first floor, spread over 822 sq. feet in April 2009. But, she went on to raise three floors, at a total constructed area of more than 4000 sq. feet, for which no approval was sought.

According to a member of the SNV Garden Youth Residents Welfare Association, the association members had sought the intervention of the Corporation regarding the issue. They later filed a petition with the Madras High Court on November 2015.

The Court, on March 10, fined the Corporation Rs.10,000 for delaying a report on the issue, after which the Corporation filed the report on March 18.

Following the report, the court had ordered the officials to seal the unapproved constructions and also directed the Corporation to submit a report of the same to the court on April 11.

The corporation sealed to the unapproved structure on Saturday, according to the direction of the court, and will be submitting the report on Monday.
