Fans of superstar Rajnikanth have launched protests all over Tamil Nadu condemning a recent remark made by Vijayakanth in his election speech.
The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) chief, in one of his election rallies in Chennai, allegedly said that unlike Rajnikanth, he was not afraid of facing political threats during his acting career. Vijayakanth then went on to refer to his film, ‘Gajendra,’ which featured a song that PMK leader Dr. Ramadoss found offensive.
Despite pressure to remove the song, Vijayakanth said that he went on to release the film without making any cuts. Referring to Rajnikanth’s decision to stop smoking in his films after Dr. Ramadoss requested him not to, Vijayakanth alleged that the Kollywood superstar “did whatever he (Ramadoss) said.”
Trouble began when Vijayakanth repeated this allegation during another campaign rally, protests began. Rajnikanth’s fans burned effigies of Vijayakanth to show their protests. They also demanded unconditional apology from the DMDK leader.
