With death toll due to excessive heat touching five, the Federation of Tamil Nadu Agriculturists Associations (FTAA) has today sought a ban on campaign in the scorching sun.

According to a statement by the FTAA secretary, S Nallasamy, it was the duty of the Election Commission to protect the voters who were being wrongfully confined by the political parties in the hot sun, as part of the election rally crowds.

He also alleged that people from far-off villages are being brought like cattle in vans and lorries to attend these rallies, by the lure of money, food, and liquor.

He requested the Election Commission to take immediate action to end such ‘confinement’ and stop campaigning in the scorching sun, which result in the death and hospitalisation of the masses, and allow election rallies only in the evenings.
