The Consumer Products Division of Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd (GHCL), which manufactures the I-FLO brand of edible salt, is all set to enter into the spices market.

The GHCL Vice President, and Head of Consumer Production Division, Gopakumar Menon said that the Rs.2500 crore company, part of the Sanjay Dalmia Group, has Rs.60 crore turnover in salt business. The company intends to raise it to Rs.300 crores in another five years, by including spices in its health and wellness sector. Negotiations are on with major producers, especially the ones from Kerala, to procure quality spices.

Menon said that the company, which will soon introduce herbal salts, has a 10 percent market share in salt industry in the southern states and is all set to expand the distribution network in Maharashtra and Goa.

The company also plans to increase its production capacity from the current 65,000 tonnes to one lakh tonnes in another year, and to launch its products in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The three states together consume about 40 percent of the FMCGs in India.
