The Election Commission has asked the political parties of the state to not hold meetings or rallies under extreme weather conditions. The request was made following reports of the death of four AIADMK workers during the election rallies in Vridhachalam and Salem, due to acute dehydration.

In its advisory, the Election Commission of India said that it has been receiving complaints and reports from various sides about the difficulties faced by the citizens who attend the rallies and meetings organized by the political parties, in the blazing heat.

Referring to the reports that some persons had died due to excessive heat when they attended an election meeting, the ECI has asked the political parties to avoid holding meetings in extreme weather conditions of the summer.

The ECI has also instructed that the venues of such public meetings must have adequate shade, drinking water, and emergency medical facilities in order to not put the lives of the citizens at risk.
