The National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) today began an inquiry into the alleged murder of a Dalit girl in Sulur on the outskirts of Coimbatore, a month ago.

Arumugham, a resident of Kallampalayam near Sulur and the father of the victim, 18-year-old Salomia, had lodged a missing complaint on May 2, based on which police began their investigations.

During the course of investigation, police found an unidentified body of a girl, with a deep cut on the neck, in a village near Dindigul. The body was later identified by Arumugham as that of Salomia’s.

Police received information that prior to her death, Salomia was seen in the company of one Azhagupadmanabhan, who later surrendered before the Sulur police. Three others, who assisted in the murder, were absconding.

Soon, the locals began to protest, demanding the details of the investigations, and the immediate arrest of the suspects, even as the NCSC was alerted.

C Chandraprabha, Research Officer of NCSC, Tamil Nadu, along with two officials, Lister and Iniyan, conducted inquiry with Arumugham and handed over Rs.2.81 lakhs as solatium. They also inquired with the police on the delay in filing a case.
