Governor to address Assembly on June 16

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah would address the Legislative Assembly on June 16.

According to Assembly Secretary A.M.P. Jamaludeen the Governor’s address is expected to have details on implementation of welfare schemes being carried out by the AIADMK Government that has already started carrying out its poll promises.

Soon after taking charge as Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa ordered loan waiver for farmers, free electricity for household connections (for the first 100 units), closure of 50 TASMC outlets. The Governor’s address may have more details on it.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Speaker, P. Dhanapal, has recognised M.K. Stalin as Leader of the Opposition, another press release from Jamaludeen said.

Sixty-three-year-old Stalin, who first became an MLA in 1989, was the DMK’s floor leader in the previous Assembly too. He was the Local Administration Minister between 2006 and 2009 and later promoted Deputy Chief Minister (2009-11). He was also the Mayor of Chennai between 1996 and 2001.

Stalin was re-elected from the Kolathur constituency in the just concluded elections.
