Tamil Nadu tech company will be honoring two of the state’s Nobel laureates for Physics – Sir CV Raman and S Chandrasekhar – when it turns the villages they hail from into wifi hotspots. On June 20, celebrated as the Wifi Day, as declared by Wireless Broadband Alliance, the Chennai-based company – Microsense India – will connect the two villages – Agaramangudi and Purasakkudi by Wifi.

According to the company official S Kailasanathan, it was from these two villages in Thanjavur district that the Nobel Laureates hailed from.

Incidentally, these two villages are located just two km apart. Sir CV Raman, who was awarded the highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna – had got Nobel prize for his work in the field of light. He was born in Agaramangudi village.

His nephew Chandrasekhar, also won the Nobel Prize for his discovery called Chandrasekhar limit and he had his roots in neighboring Purasakkudi village. Wifi equipment is to be fixed on top of two houses in these two villages and they would be operational on Monday and each one would cover an area of one square km.

The company will also donate a computer to the local aided primary school at Agaramangudi, which has its headmaster beaming with joy for his students. The village has a population of 3000 and many of its students go to schools and colleges in nearby areas.

It was difficult to find a decent internet connection also in this village. The Wifi connection will sure help the children and youth to be properly connected to the world.

Incidentally, people with smartphones can easily stay connected with wifi now. Till now they had to worry about phone bills, but wifi connectivity would enable them to consider internet based business activities as well as an option.

The wifi services will be free, as of now, the company official said.
