Valparai receives copious rains

The hill station of Valparai in Coimbatore district is receiving heavy rains for the last two days. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has declared holiday for educational institutions today.

The rains, which started lashing several parts of the district, were moderate to heavy in Valparai, since yesterday morning. Keeping this in mind, the district administration has declared holiday for school and colleges in the region today.

Though there was a brief respite from the rains during night hours, it started pouring from the early hours today, official sources said. Three houses were damaged in the rains. Water in the Sholayar dam has increased by 10 feet. The level of water in the 160-foot dam currently stands at 82 feet.

The weather is expected to continue this way for the rest of the day.
