After a pause of 27 days, cattle trade is all set to resume, following the withdrawal of strike by the members of the Tamil Nadu Cattle Merchants and Workers Protection Welfare Association.

The members went on strike to protest against the animal rights activists who were complaining about the inhuman manner in which the cattle were being transported. The activists claimed that the animals were not even given food or water during their final journey to the slaughterhouses. The seized cattle were handed over to animal rescue shelters.

The district administration has agreed to permit the transportation of 24 cattle-heads in each truck. It has also assured that there will not be any interference from animal rights activists, but police checks will be performed.
