SIMI behind the Madras Central blast of 2014, says CB-CID; PIL closed

The CB-CID has informed the Madras High Court that members of the banned SIMI organization were behind the twin blasts that occurred at the Madras Central Railway Station on May 1, 2014. A woman software engineer was killed in the explosions.
Three persons have also been identified as those involved in the explosions.
The report was part of the Public Interest Litigation filed by M. Duraiselvam. The first bench of the Madras High Court, consisting of Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan, closed the PIL filed, stating that the litigation was filed based on newspaper reports over the quality of investigations into the explosions.
The court pointed out that the investigations have narrowed down three accused, two of whom were apprehended and were currently facing murder trials in Madhya Pradesh, while the third was killed in the encounter. “Prisoner-on-transit warrants were obtained for their remand in the present case,” the bench observed.
On the issue of compensation for the victim’s family, the court said that Rs.1 lakh was paid to the woman engineer’s legal heirs by the Tamil Nadu Government.
The PIL was closed.
