The Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony, along with NGO Tulsi Trust, launched its ambitious Project Sahasra today. Under this project 1,000 children from 18 villages in and around Coimbatore will be trained in computer basics and communication skills.

Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony was founded about 26 years ago. Education for all has been declared as the Rotaract’s theme of the year. As part of Project Sahasra, the members of the Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony will visit each of the 18 villages during the weekends and train the local children. Each training session will be three hours long.

“The Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony is a community-based movement, with 27 members. On rotation basis, we visit each of the villages and train the children in the basics of computers, like using PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. We also offer them training in soft skills,” K. Sampath, Secretary of Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony, said.

Project Sahasra was launched earlier this month. The club plans to reach out to 1,000 children in 18 villages by June 2017.
