About 10,000 devotees are expected to participate in the annual Guru Purnima celebrations to be hosted at the Isha Yoga Centre. Guru Purnima is observed by Hindus, Jains, and the Buddhists to show their gratitude towards their teachers.

A press release from Isha Yoga Centre stated that its spiritual head and founder Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev will conduct a satsang (being in the company of the truth or the good, by sitting together with a guru or a group of spiritual aspirants) at Adi Yogi Alayam, the largest meditation hall at the centre. The satsang is expected to start at 6:15 pm and conclude by midnight.

On the day of Guru Purnima, devotees will offer milk and water to the Dhyanalinga at the Isha Yoga Centre, from 6 AM to 6 PM.

Describing the significance of Guru Purnima, Sadhguru said, “Guru Purnima is the day the first guru was born. In the yogic culture, Shiva is not seen as a god. He is seen as the Adiyogi, or the first Yogi. Guru Purnima is that full moon day when the first yogi transformed Himself into the Adi Guru – the first guru. This is the time of the year when His attention fell upon the now celebrated Saptarishis – His first seven disciples.”
