Thanjavur: The Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Advocates Joint Action Council has announced that agitations will continue until the suspension of advocates is revoked. They have also said that the three orders of the Madras High Court were not acceptable to them.

The council also warned of mass returning of professional licences if the suspension of advocates was not revoked.

The resolution was adopted at the council’s general body meeting held here in Thanjavur, with the joint action council’s chief-coordinator, P. Thirumalairajan, chairing the session.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Thirumalairajan said that the three orders of Madras High Court were in a manner to deceive the advocates. He also condemned the Bar Council of India (BCI) for suspending the agitating advocates. “The BCI is not vested with such power. It has illegally suspended the advocates,” he said.

The next rounds of agitation will be decided at the joint action committee’s executive meeting which would be held on August 6, he said.
