Rise and fall of the tomato

In two months the price of tomatoes has come crashing down from Rs 100 to Rs10 per kilo due to an increased production.
Tomatoes are being produced in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Erode and Vellore, and also being transported from neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Two months ago, the price of tomato shot up to RS100. State governments were instructed to prevent hoarding by the central government, following which prices of the non-hybrid variety (naatu thakkali) crashed reaching a wholesale rate of Rs 10 per kilo and retail rate of Rs14. Bangalore tomato touched a wholesale rate of Rs25 per kilo; and a retail rate of Rs20.
