Police today rescued a techie within hours of his kidnap for a ransom of Rs. 50 lakhs in the outskirts of Chennai.

According to police, the techie, Premkumar, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was returning from work at 2 a.m.. When he was crossing a road at Thalambur a four-member gang intercepted and took him away in a car.

The gang immediately contacted Premkumar’s parents and demanded Rs. 50 lakhs ransom for his safe release. When Premkumar’s father told them that he had only one lakh with him at that point and that he would settle the balance amount later, they accepted the deal and asked him to send the money through Premkumar’s friend.

Premkumar’s parents arrived in Chennai and immediately lodged a complaint with the police, who posed as the victim’s friend and came to the spot mentioned by the kidnappers on the East Coast Road. When the gang members came to collect the money, they were rounded up and arrested.

Police rescued Premkumar who was kept locked in a house in Kelambakkam.
