Celebration of arts and craft at Poompuhar’s Craft Expo

Known to promote artists and artisans, Poompuhar recently hosted its Craft Expo, at JJ Hall on Race Course. Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Commissioner Dr. K. Vijay Karthikeyan declared the exhibition and sale open. Today, August 10, is the concluding day for Craft Expo.

“Last month we had an expo that promoted the works of five artists from Tamil Nadu. This time, we have artists from all over the country participating in the expo. This is a platform for the artists to interact with the public in person and understand their taste and preferences. Also, we have for sale a plethora of products including home decor items and jewellery,” says a spokesperson of Poompuhar.

“I like the jute bags that are sold here. Jute bags are available almost everywhere. I have never come across such fine quality of jute and I especially like the finish,” Revathi Ravi, a homemaker from Sundarapuram, shares.

Also at the expo, artists have put up for sale products that are made from bronze and brass, like traditional lamps made of brass. There also are Tanjore paintings, with elaborate and traditional frames.

With the intention of promoting artisans and their creations, Poompuhar has plans of hosting an art and craft expo every month. The theme for such expos will be decided, based on the season.
