A member of National Commission for Women (NCW) today visited the Isha Yoga Centre here to confirm the veracity of the letters sent by two women sanyasins to it.

According to sources, the member, Sushma Sahu, met the siblings Geetha and Latha, now called Maa Maayu and Maa Maati, and recorded their version. She also confirmed the contents of the letters the sisters had dispatched.

The sisters had sent letters to the commission stating that they were staying in the Centre on their own volition and not due to compulsion by anybody. They had requested the Commission to take steps to safeguard them from the harassment from their parents and other divisive forces behind them.

Their father, a retired professor, Kamaraj had submitted petition to the District Collector, police and also Madras High Court seeking their rescue. Following a directive from the High Court, the Principal District Judge and Superintendent of Police and another judicial officer met the sisters and recorded their statements a few days ago.

Later Sushma left for Delhi in the afternoon.
