About 150 DMK workers, mainly women, were arrested in Coimbatore city today, when they attempted to stage picketing and burn the effigy of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, P Dhanpal, over the suspension of party MLAs from the House.
Led by the party’s South District secretary of the women’s wing, Malathi, the protesters squatted in the middle of the road in Koundampalayam and raised slogans against the Speaker. Police arrested them when they tried to burn an effigy of the Speaker.
