The DMK moved the Madras High Court on Friday against the suspension of its MLAs from the Assembly for a week.

In his plea, filed by on behalf of the DMK leader, M.K. Stalin, said suspension of the opposition legislators “under the guise of powers conferred in the rules of the Assembly” is unprecedented in the history of parliamentary democracy.

The petition, which came up before the first bench, also prayed the court to quash Section 121 of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Rules.

When senior counsel Mohan Parasaran requested to take the plea as urgent hearing case, the Bench refused to take up immediately. However, Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said the Bench would look into it on Monday afternoon.
