Minister announces roadmap to achieve 25 percent GDP

The Minister of State for Science and Technology, YS Chowdary, on Saturday, launched the Technology Roadmap on Manufacturing, with an aim of achieving 25 per cent GDP by the end of 2035, in Coimbatore.

Briefing media persons here in Coimbatore after the launch at the PSG College of Technology, he said that the central government was planning to achieve the goal of 25 per cent GDP growth by breaking it down into five years’ target, so that there is immediate growth.

“Our GDP has seen a good growth despite an unstable situation all over the world and we have marked 7 per cent growth. With the right contribution from good manufacturing states, we can achieve the target,” he said.

Chowdary also added that the centre was trying to replicate and make use of the model of technology in manufacturing from states like Tamil Nadu. But the minister said that they have identified various bottlenecks in different sectors, and were trying to resolve them by using practical solutions.

“It is here that we need to adopt good technology from other countries, and from within, so that the bottlenecks are resolved,” he said.

He also claimed that the whole nation should celebrate the successful passing of the GST Bill, which is expected to play a major role in the roadmap.

To the question on whether the Government would seek help from SMEs in the project as the roadmap largely focused on Make in India, the minister replied that the Government would seek the contribution of SMEs, but added that there was no fixed percentage for their contribution.

“This is a collective effort and all departments and SMEs will come under one banner to help achieve the target,” said the Minister.
