Defending Andhra Pradesh’s decision to construct and increase the height of the dam across Palar, a move that is strongly being opposed by Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, and Earth Sciences, Dr. YS Chowdary said that it was done as per the system that is prevalent in India.

Replying to the question on the issue, Chowdary told reporters in Coimbatore that there was nothing unlawful in the decision to increase the height of the check dam. He also said that it was ‘within the parameters of River Management Board.’

The minister had come to Coimbatore to release the Technology Roadmap on Manufacturing (Technology Vision 2035), at the PSG College of Technology.

About the Kashmir unrest, he said that the prime minister has already discussed the issue with all the parties and assured that a solution will be found soon.

On PV Sindhu winning the silver medal at the Olympics, he said that it was her gift to the nation on the 70th Independence Day. “But I’m disappointed that she didn’t win the gold medal,” he said.
