Thanjavur: The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Council (CRRC) has urged the centre to take action against the adamant Karnataka state government, under Articles 355 and 356 of the Indian Constitution, for refusing to release the Cauvery water as per the final verdict of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and for blatantly disobeying the Supreme Court’s guidelines.

A resolution to this effect was passed during the CRRC’s consultative meeting held in Thanjavur today. The CRRC also condemned the centre for betraying the interests of Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery river water issue.

Addressing the media after council’s meeting, the coordinator P Maniarasan said that Tamil Nadu’s legitimate rights were being denied in Cauvery river water issue, and accused the central government of avoiding its responsibilities. After losing Kuruvai for the fifth successive year, the Tamil Nadu farmers are now worried about the fate of the Samba crop.

Various farmers’ associations have decided to stage a road-roko protest in the Delta districts on September 23, condemning the centre’s betrayal of Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery water issue.
