DMK Singanallur MLA, N Karthik today accused the City Corporation, run by the AIADMK, of indulging in ‘politics’ in the execution of the Under Ground Drainage (UGD) project at various places, since it was started during his party’s regime.

Talking to reporters after reviewing the progress of the works in Sowripalayam area, Karthik said that the UGD works were started in 2009 during the DMK rule. A sum of Rs.337 crores was allocated by the then Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi. The work began the next year after calling for proper
tender, he said.

He said that the progress in the works in the area was ‘tardy,’ simply because it was started during the DMK period.

Pointing out that the Commissioner or other top officials were not inspecting the works, he urged the corporation to complete the project on war footing, without playing petty politics.
