People must give up growing plants in bottles in order to avert Dengue, Coimbatore Municipality’s health department has warned.

Also, since people are storing water in pots and drums, the stagnant water is breeding mosquitos.

Growing plants in pots or on the ground is harmless, it said.

Besides, ditches with dirty water near the houses are also responsible for spreading this disease.

With the threat of dengue looming over our heads, the health department has instructed doctors to keep a record of those affected and being treated for the disease.

Municipality and private hospitals and health centres have been asked to properly distinguish between dengue and other fevers and report immediately.

Other measures taken include special teams that are visiting the affected areas and providing treatment in addition to awareness campaigns.
