Homage paid to Senkodi on her death anniversary

Thanjavur: The activists of various political and Tamil outfits paid homage to martyr Senkodi on the occasion of her fifth death anniversary at the Old Bus Stand in Thanjavur today.
Led by Tamizhar Desiya Munnani general secretary, Ayyanavaram Murugesan, the activists paid floral tributes to the portrait of Senkodi. The AITUC Transport Workers Association general secretary, Lakshmanan spoke on the occasion.
Among others present were the AITUC state secretary, Chandrakumar; AITUC office-bearers Durai Mathivanan and Thillaivanam, the All India Bank Employees Association general secretary, Arunachalam; the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association district vice-president, Thirunavukkarasar; CPI District Committee member, Jaisankar; and Viduthalai Tamil Puligal Katchi urban town secretary, Vetri.
They urged the state government to release all the seven convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, including Santhan, Murugan, Perarivalan, and Nalini.
Senkodi, of Orikkai village near Kancheerpuram, and an activist of Makkal Mandram, immolated herself in front of the Taluk Office in Kancheepuram on August 28, 2011, demanding that the death sentence given to the three individuals, Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, be reduced. In her suicide note, she had expressed hope that her death would save their lives.
