A 10-month-old boy died at the Coimbatore Government Hospital early today, following complaints of high viral fever. However unconfirmed reports state that the infant could have died of dengue.

The parents of the infant, Prasanna, hailing from Thudiyalur on the outskirts of Coimbatore, had admitted him to the Government Hospital six days ago, after treating him at a private hospital for the fever, a few days earlier.

Though the baby had symptoms of dengue, the doctors treating him claimed that he died due to other complications, like high viral fever and septic shock (a type of infection-related disease leading to low blood pressure).
