Thanjavur: The Joint Movement of Farmers’ Associations has demanded the resignation of all the Members of Parliament representing the Tamil Nadu in Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, in protest against the central government for not putting pressure on Karnataka to release the Cauvery water due for Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the media persons in Thanjavur today, the joint movement’s president PK Deivasigamani said that the irrigation and drinking water needs of Tamil Nadu was badly hit due to non-release of Cauvery water by Karnataka for the fifth successive year.

Deivasigamani also blamed that though the ruling AIADMK has 50 members in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, it miserably failed to get the Cauvery water from Karnataka by pressurizing the central government. “There is no point in having 50 MPs when they have failed to pressurize the central government and get Cauvery water from Karnataka. They better resign en masse,” Deivasigamani said.

He urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to order her party MPs to resign en masse, protesting the central government’s failure to implement Supreme Court’s directive with regard to Cauvery water issue. “We no longer need any representation from Tamil Nadu in the Parliament, when the central government does not implement the Supreme Court’s direction with regard to the Cauvery water issue,” Deivasigamani said.
