CCMC wins top performer awards for eight projects

Eight projects implemented by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), under the leadership of Corporation Commissioner, Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan, won the Order-of-Merit Awards at the 45th Skoch Summit, held yesterday in Hyderabad.

Representatives from more than 600 participating cities presented the various projects that were implemented in their cities in order to upgrade the standard of living of its people. Dr. Karthikeyan presented the projects that CCMC had implemented in Coimbatore city.

The eight CCMC projects that were among the top 100 performers are – Toilet First, Ukkadam lake restoration, solar lighting for roads and parks, Happy Child Project, Smart Schools, Solid Waste Resource Management, No Food Waste, and decentralised MSW gasifier crematorium initiative at ward-level In CCMC (utilisation of biogas produced from MSW in gasifier crematorium at Nanjundapuram).

Ever since news of the CCMC bagging eight awards broke, congratulatory messages have been pouring in from all quarters on the social media. Dr. Karthikeyan, who was in Hyderabad at the time of publishing this news, took to Whatsapp to thank them all. “Thank you friends for all your wonderful wishes! Will work even harder with all your support,” Dr. Karthikeyan posted in the ‘Namma Kovai’ Whatsapp group this morning.

Speaking to Covai Post, R. Raveendran, Secretary, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore, (RAAC) said, “Coimbatore-based projects winning awards at the national level only proves that Coimbatore is the social capital of India. Under the leadership of our Commissioner, and with the participation from the community, we have come this far. We must all aim to make Coimbatore the most liveable city in the world.”
