The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee (CRRC) has urged the Supreme Court to suo motu file a Contempt of Court case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah for openly supporting the bandh held in his state as part of the protests against the apex court’s orders in the Cauvery issue.

CRRC coordinator, P Maniarasan, in a statement, pointed out that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah had issued a statement supporting the protests and declared holiday for government offices and educational institutions in Karnataka in support of the bandh.

The agitators forcibly entered the Krishnarajasagar dam premises and attempted to close the shutters and stop the water being released to Tamil Nadu. Vehicles with Tamil Nadu registration numbers were attacked and damaged. But, the police did not take any action against the hooligans, Maniarasan said.

He said that the Supreme Court, therefore, should suo motu file a contempt of court case against Siddharamaiah for openly supporting the bandh held in the State protesting the apex court’s directive to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
