Tamil Nadu Traders’ Association president T Vellayan today urged the state government to provide adequate compensation to shopkeepers and traders affected by the arson and violence, caused during the funeral procession of Hindu Munnani functionary in the city two days ago.

The traders were seriously affected by the arson and looting by a section of mourners, particularly in and around Thudiyalur, where the slain Sasikumar lived, Vellayan, who visited the area, told reporters.

Attack on trades was a matter of concern, he said and appealed to the government to provide necessary protection to run businesses.

A group of CPI(M) workers, led by former MLA P Thangavelu, also visited those affected in the violence. eom
