320 file papers for local body elections

A total of 320 candidates today filed their nominations for various posts in the local bodies elections scheduled for October 17, taking the total number to 858 for 3,209 seats in the district.
For the 2,034 village panchayat ward members, so far 509 nominations were received, while 143 nominations received for 100 ward Coimbatore city corporation, official sources said.
Only 11 nominations were received for 90 municipal councillor posts in three municipalities in the district.
