Chennai : DMK leader M Karunanidhi on Friday wished Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa a speedy recovery, and said that the Tamil Nadu government should take measures to put a stop to rumours about her condition.

In a statement issued here, Karunanidhi noted that Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has not visited Jayalalithaa, who has been in hospital for more than a week.

There is also no news of leaders of AIADMK allies meeting Jayalalithaa in the hospital.

As a result of keeping Jayalalithaa’s health condition a closely guarded secret, there are baseless rumours spreading about her health, Karunanidhi said.

The government should have at least released a picture of Jayalalithaa in hospital, since she had chaired a meeting of officials on the Cauvery water issue and dictated her speech to be read out at a meeting on the issue in Delhi, he suggested.
