The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Friday condemned the Centre’s move to privatise 22 Public Sector Undertakings. The sale includes engineering and electronic corporations besides 67 discovered oil fields by ONGC and Oil India.

In a statement today, the AITUC secretary, D.L. Sachdev, denounced the government’s move to privatise more PSUs. “The sale of these PSUs will undermine economic sovereignty of the country. The trade unions have already opposed the sale spree by the Government. No to privatization of PSUs is part of 12 point demands on which massive All India Strike was observed on September 2, 2016,” he said.

The trade unions would meet soon to decide the next course of action on this and other issues concerning workers.

The AITUC appealed to its constituents to move jointly against the Centre’s move, which if carried out, would further weaken the economic self reliance and sovereignty of the country.
