Joining the bandwagon of dissidents frustrated with local party chiefs for reportedly giving seats to others, a DMK member P Ravi from Kavignar Kalyana Sundaranar Street, has nominated his wife Amsaveni Ravi as an independent for the councilor post in the 37th ward, which is reserved for women.

“I have been working for the party for the past 27 years and have also served as deputy secretary. But my plea was not given importance and the seat was given to some other person,” said Ravi.

He added that party heads, who worked in a hurry, did not even interview the candidates before selecting them, adding that the current party candidate is faced with too much opposition to win.

“Things were done in a hurry and candidates were selected based on popularity among party heads,” he alleged.

Pledging to solve various issues including irregular distribution of drinking and salt water, opening a library, Ravi also stated that they would construct a subway or flyover near the Hopes signal.

He said that he had garnered support even from the members of the DMK, and was ready to face any action from the party chief. “I am still a member of the party and I am not resigning my membership,” added Ravi.
