Thanjavur: The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee (CRRC) has urged the people of Tamil Nadu to begin a series of agitations, including ‘non-cooperation movement’ against the Centre for its betrayal in protecting the rights of Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery issue. The committee recalled the non-cooperation movement launched by the people of the country against the British government seven decades ago.

The committee also appealed to the people to boycott the functions in which Union Ministers participate and show black flags to them (ministers) to register their protests.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the committee’s consultative meeting in Thanjavur today. Viduthalai Tamil Puligal Katchi founder-president Kudanthai Arasan, Tamizhar Desiya Munnani general secretary Ayanavaram Murugesan and several others participated.

CRRC convener P. Maniarasan said Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan and other MPs from Tamil Nadu should immediately resign. Scholars, artistes and teachers from the State should not accept/receive any awards from the Central Government. “Those who already received should immediately return the awards,” he added.

Maniarasan also called upon the farmers in Tamil Nadu not to repay the loans availed by them from the nationalised banks and urged the Central Government employees to resort to ‘stay-in-strike’. He also appealed the people not to allow the Centre to explore oil and natural gas from the Cauvery Basin.

The committee appealed to the people and traders to impose an ‘economic embargo’ against Karnataka and boycott paddy, turmeric, tobacco and all products manufactured in Karnataka. It also called for a boycott of Kannada movies and urged Tamil stars not to have any truck with Kannada artistes.

“These action plans will be implemented soon after an intensive week-long campaign from October 22, Maniarasan said
