Chennai: DMK legislative party leader and party treasurer MK Stalin on Thursday threatened to move no confidence motion against speaker if he failed to constitute house committees of the house as per the house rules.
The Tamil Nadu assembly is functioning without house committees, even after five months of the constitution of the new house after May 2016 general elections. Stalin alleged that the committees were not formed, which are an integral part of the legislative procedures and practices.
The committees that needed to be formed are, estimates, public accounts, public undertakings, business advisory, rules, privileges, delegated legislation, government assurances, House, petitions, library and papers laid on the table of the House panels.
Speaker P Dhanpal had promised to set up house committees during the last sitting of the house after the issue was raised by Stalin and deputy floor leader of DMK, Durai Murugan.
“We will move a no confidence motion against speaker, if he does not honor his promise. I hope he does not force us to move the motion,” Stalin told media persons.
Stalin also intimated to the finance minister O Panneerselvam, through a memorandum, the deliberations at the all-party meeting convened by the DMK and the resolutions adopted there. He also submitted a copy of the memorandum to the chief secretary.
