Thanjavur: Irate relatives of a college student, who was reportedly washed away while bathing in Vennar bank on October 28, resorted to a road blockade disrupting traffic for about one hour on the busy Thanjavur-Kumbakonam road, near Thanjavur today, as his body is yet to be retrieved.

Arul Mani, 19, resident of Sarukkai village on the Kumbakonam road, was a BSc second year at Rajah Serfoji Government Arts College in Thanjavur. He was washed away by the running current while he, along with his friends, was bathing in Vennar bank.

Irate relatives of Arul carried out the blockade to protest the apathy in retrieving his body.

On being informed, revenue and police officials rushed there, held talks with the agitators and persuaded them to call off their stir.

On the orders of RDO C Suresh, the fire and rescue service personnel conducted a search in Vennar, but to no avail.
