In order to take action against omnibus drivers and owners in Coimbatore for flouting norms, members of the Suyamariyathai Student’s Movement petitioned District Collector TN Hariharan here today.

In the petition to the Collector, N Vinod Kumar, coordinator of the association for Coimbatore district, has claimed that despite the administration shifting the omnibus stand from Sathy Road to Avinashi Road, they continue to use the old bus terminus.

“The terminus from near the GP Signal was shifted to Neelambur on the Avinashi Road to avert traffic during the construction of the Gandhipuram flyover,” he said. However, he alleged that even as the rule was in effect, omnibuses were still using the Sathy Road to take on passengers.

“The buses stop on both the sides of the flyover for passengers to board, creating heavy traffic jam during the late hours,” he said.

He also claimed that even emergency vehicles, including ambulances, are not given passage because of the traffic. Notably, the members have petitioned the Collectorate twice earlier.
